Chemical Robots

"In a pair of small laboratories in Prague, a swarm of tens of millions of robots is being prepared, to be set loose en masse."

"Instead of software and processors to guide them, their instructions will be written into the chemistry of their constituent parts. They are chemical robots, or as the 1.6m euro project's title has it, chobots."

Ace, autonomous robot

"ACE went autonomously from the lab to the Marienplatz in Munich. It did not use any map knowledge or GPS and found its way solely from information given from passers-by. (Everybody who gave directions to ACE: thank you.)"

Rutgers AUV

This spring, ocean engineers and students from Rutgers University will be launching a small autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV), also known as a Slocum Glider, off the coast of New Jersey for a transatlantic mission. While past transatlantic journeys have been accomplished by boats, planes, kayaks and even swimmers it would be the first time for a robot. To cross the Atlantic, this robot will make its way by gliding beneath the ocean's surface. This year’s goal is not only to make it to Spain but also to do one profile of the ocean each day with the onboard CTD. Follow along as students from the Coastal Ocean Observation Lab guide RU27 on its voyage.
